Highest Awards

The Girl Scout Bronze Award

The Bronze Award is the Highest Award a Junior Girl Scout can earn. At the Bronze Award level, girls work in a troop/group to develop and implement a sustainable solution to an issue they are interested in. Bronze Award recipients have distinguished themselves as collaborative community problem solvers who have learned how to take a leadership role in team tasks with the support and direction of their leader.

The Bronze Award requires 20 hours of take action per girl and the submission of a group Final Reporting form to Council. There is no project proposal approval at the Bronze Award level. Learn more about what to expect in the Bronze Award process below.

Before Bronze

Learning About the Bronze Award:

Eligibility: Junior Girl Scouts (4th and 5th graders) are eligible to complete the Bronze Award through September 30th of the year they graduate 5th grade (i.e. during the fall of their 6th grade year).

Prerequisites: Complete one Junior Journey, including the Take Action Project.

Steps to the Bronze Award

Project: Utilize the GSSJC Bronze Award Project Guide to plan and implement your project. Make sure your project meets Take Action (as opposed to community service) guidelines.

  • Submission: Submit your troop/group’s Bronze Award project Final Reporting Form by filling out the following online form: https://gssjc.me/bronzeaward.
  • Review: Council will review and grant final approval for your troop/group’s Bronze Award project. To ensure approval, please be sure to follow all Council regulations related to the project concept, including those outlined in Volunteer Essentials, Safety Activity Checkpoints, and Policies and Procedures, and GSSJC Ways of Work.
  • Approval: After submission, you will receive a congratulations email within 3 weeks. Please reach out to bronzeaward@sjgs.org if you have not received your congratulatory email within that timeframe.

After Earning the Bronze Award

  • Bronze Award Pins – Bring your Bronze Award congratulations letter, which includes the names of all girls who earned the award, to the Girl Scout Shop to purchase Bronze Award pins.
  • Bronze Award Certificate – One Bronze Award certificate per project will be mailed to the Troop/Group Leader for the project from Council. If you would like your girls to have individual certificates, you can purchase them at the Girl Scout Shop.
  • Bronze Award Project Yard Sign – GSSJC offers complimentary yard signs to be placed at the location of your Bronze Award project, if applicable. Pick up a Bronze Award project yard sign at the Girl Scout Shop.
  • Golden Link
    • One Bronze Award project per issue is chosen to be highlighted in the Golden Link. Upon earning the award your girl/troop is automatically considered for highlighting. We choose projects for highlighting based on a variety of criteria; however, the project must, first and foremost, be a true Take Action Project. Secondly, we seek projects that address a wide variety of topics. To increase your chances of being chosen as a feature, make sure that the girls' project incorporates all components of a Take Action Project (especially sustainability) and work with your girls to consider addressing an unusual issue. Check out the GSUSA Theme Guide for inspiration.
    • You can submit your project to the Scrapbook section of the Golden Link by emailing communications@sjgs.org.

Bronze Award Girl Scouts are invited to attend Gold Award Ceremony in May at a discounted rate! Come be inspired to Go Gold and earn the "I Was Inspired by a Gold Award Girl Scout" patch! Limited spots available. Registration required (open in March/April).

Take Note

  • Reminder: Only one complimentary Bronze Award certificate per project will be mailed from Council. If you would like your girls to have individual certificates, you can purchase them at the Girl Scout Shop.
  • The Bronze Award is intended to be a group/troop project. If your troop contains a girl who is either too young to complete the Bronze Award or is past the deadline, please note that this girl will be ineligible to earn the award when the Final Reporting Form is processed.
